I do agree, the era of social media we have known is coming to a very...dramatic close. I think these periods are mega exciting however, lots of opportunities and chances to learn and understand the platforms before mainstream acceptance.
I'm curious to see what's next. I wonder if Mastodon and Discord are the start of us going back to the chat rooms of old. Maybe less decentralised.
Old always give way to the new. That's the law of nature and always will.. And the platforms who are becoming rotten can only be used for compost, from which something new and fresh will spring to life! Even podcasting is reinventing itself but will be a great voice for many. Many like us!
I share a lot of your concerns Eric. We need an open podcasting ecosystem more than ever now!
