“I always want to have something that's making me uncomfortable, because I'm not currently the best person at doing that thing, but I want to figure it out and learn and become great at it.”
This quote from Zoe CMO Bob Sherwin on the latest episode of Building Better CMOs really clicked with me.
I believe in knowing your own limits and hiring beyond them. But at the same time — I always want to be learning new things, for my company’s benefit and my own.
Maybe your customers’ needs change. Maybe AI gets too good at your job. Or maybe you just want to learn a new skill for the sake of learning it. I'm literally starting a photography class next week, because ... why not?
As Bob says, if your job “doesn't provide you with skill acquisition, challenging yourself, increased responsibility, then you really should start getting antsy.”
